| Saia Announces New Transit Time Improvements | ||
Saia Motor Freight has announced a new transit time improvement plan that will save a day of service between more than 2,600 zip codes in Saia’s 12-state coverage area. The new plan, effective October 1, will improve transit times from two days to overnight and from three days to two days on freight moved between points throughout the company service area. The program allows Saia to provide faster, more reliable and greater service consistency on freight in those areas. In May, Saia announced an aggressive transit time improvement program that saved a day of service between more than three million zip pairs in its 12-state region. This new plan will complement the earlier program. "What this means for many of our customers is that we are taking a day off the delivery time to many of the points we serve," said Tony Albanese, senior vice president of sales and operations. "This should provide a number of benefits to the customers that our customers serve. Any time you can cut a day off delivery times, you are providing a tremendous service to customers." Albanese continued, "This new service enhancement added to Saia’s on-time delivery percentage overall will provide a better product in the market place. Our on-time delivery has exceeded 97 percent on a consistent basis. This is but one of the primary measurements we tally on a daily basis to show how well our company is doing in service," he said. Saia’s Customer Service Indicators® is an index of performance measurements that include on-time pick-up, on-time delivery, claims settled within 30 days, claims-free shipments proof of delivery (POD) turnaround and invoice accuracy.
