| Toys for Tots commends Saia for its generosity | ||
JOHNS CREEK, GA - January 29, 2016 - Saia Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) is pleased to announce that it was again recognized for its partnership with the Toys for Tots Foundation during its recent holiday campaign, having donated $25,000 to support the charity's mission of providing toys to economically disadvantaged children across the United States. Aside from the monetary donation, the company donated transportation services to move collected toys and employees participated in a company-wide toy drive that netted over 5000 toys that were distributed to children residing in the 150 communities in which Saia operates offices and terminals. "Our partnership with Toys for Tots has been an initiative employees have been extremely supportive of," said Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell. "It was heartwarming to see how generous our team members were with regard to making the holidays a little brighter for children and families who are less fortunate." For instance, employees working at the company's Boise, Idaho and Houma, La. offices donated over a 1000 toys alone while on a more personal level, individual Saia employees donated multiple toys and bicycles because they had previously been a beneficiary of the Toys for Tots program. Toys for Tots was created in 1947 in Los Angeles, Calif. by retired Marine Corps Maj. Bill Hendricks. In 1948, the United States Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots and expanded it into a nationwide community action project known as the U. S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Program. "Last year, the Marine Corps again reach nearly seven million less fortunate children," said retired Marine Corps Col. Ted Silvester.
