| Saia Selects 2014 Scholarship Recipients | ||
JOHNS CREEK, GA - Aug. 28, 2014 - Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) is pleased to announce the names of 12 students receiving scholarships totaling $18,000 as part of the company's 2014 scholarship program. Since its inception 11 years ago, the program has awarded over $200,000 to nearly 140 students, including this year's recipients. Saia's scholarship program is a benefit designed to support company personnel as they pursue a higher education. It is open to full-time employees attending college and/or their dependents who are full-time students. The following six students were awarded a $2000 scholarship: - Alaina Abadie of Cumming, GA - Megan Bennett of Toledo, OH - Rober Johns of Arcata, CA - Victoria Layton of Concord, NC - Alison Sperger of Hickory, NC - Brittney Traudt of Spring Hill, FL Another six students were awarded a $1000 scholarship. They include: -Whitney Cervantes of Jackson, TN - Cory Coffey of Anderson, IN - Kayla Johnson of Bakersfield, CA - David Ramos of Aurora, IL - Jessica Rhea of Joelton, TN Carleigh Whitehead of Starke, FL "We are always happy to recognize students with these awards," said Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell. "The applications the committee reviewed were excellent and highlighted each student's achievements. The task of selecting who to recognize was again very difficult. The applicants were very well respected in their communities and received high recommendations from their teachers, professors and community leaders." Applications to the program are reviewed by a selection committee who evaluate each student's academic achievement, essay quality, community service, leadership capabilities, communication skills and recommendation letters. Scholarships are awarded based on achievement in one or more of three areas: Academic Merit, Community Service and/or Innovation. About Saia, Inc. Saia Inc.
