Saia Breaks Ground for New Jackson, MS Terminal
Saia Motor Freight has announced a new $2.1 million, 37-door terminal facility on almost eight acres near Jackson, MS with completion date expected early next year, according to Vice President of Maintenance Mike Burger. The facility will be located in a cul de sac area in an industrial park just off Interstate Drive outside the city of Jackson in Richland, MS. The location has access to Highway 49, Interstate 20 and Interstate 55. Burger said the new terminal would have two major buildings – the terminal itself and a maintenance shop. The office in the terminal will be a little more than 2,000 square feet and the dock will be a total of 11,520 square feet. The dock will be 192 feet long and 60 feet wide, with 36 loading doors and a ramp. The maintenance shop will have a wash bay area and will be around 3,750 square feet. The parking area will be large enough to hold 60 trailers, 35 tractors and approximately 50 automobiles. Burger said Saia closed on the property last month and clearing and grading started immediately afterward. JA Moss Construction Company is contractor. “The initial plan calls for the facility to be finished in early March, but we are hoping, weather permitting, that it will be ready earlier,” said Burger. “We’ll move in as soon as the last nail is driven and the building is approved,” he said. The current facility, 24-doors located on Livingston Road in Jackson, is for sale, Burger added.
