| Saia LTL Freight Receives Awards for Safety Record | ||
JOHNS CREEK, GA Sept. 30, 2013 - Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) announced that Saia LTL Freight has been honored with two awards for its excellent 2012 safety record. Saia drivers placed first in the "General Commodities LTL/Local Division, Over 100 Million Miles Category" and third in the "General Commodities Linehaul Division, Over 100 Million Miles Category" in the American Trucking Associations (ATA) National Truck Safety Contest. The carrier also placed third in the "General Commodities LTL Division, Over 5,000 Employees Category" in the ATA National Industrial Safety Contest. This is the fifth consecutive year Saia LTL Freight has been honored by the ATA for its safety record. "We are very pleased with the dedication of our drivers - to the safety of the freight they transport as well as to the safety of the motoring public," said Saia Director of Safety and Claims Prevention Karla Staver. "The diligence they exhibit every day is truly outstanding. We are honored by this recognition from the ATA." Reno City Driver Paul Twaddle and Reno Line Driver Glen Peak, who both have achieved 22 and 18 years of safe driving, respectively, along with Saia Regional Safety Manager Chris Wright accepted the awards on the company's behalf at the recent ATA Truck and Industrial Awards and State Association Recognition Awards Luncheon. Saia's commitment to safety includes ongoing employee training, application of the Smith System defensive driving techniques, use of the Iteris Lane Departure Warning System and Bendix Wingman Advanced technology, which assists drivers in preventing collisions, rollovers, and loss-of-control accidents, as well as participation in the ATA's Safety Council.
