| Saia Selects 2013 Scholarship Recipients | ||
JOHNS CREEK, GA - Aug. 28, 2013 - Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) is pleased to announce the names of 12 students receiving scholarships totaling $18,000 as part of the company's 2013 scholarship program. Since its inception ten years ago, the program has awarded a total of $190,000 to 125 students, including this year's recipients. Saia's scholarship program is a benefit designed to support company personnel as they pursue a higher education. It is open to full-time employees attending college and/or their dependents who are full-time students. The following six students were awarded a $2000 scholarship: - Cory Coffey of Anderson, Ind. - Matthew Dominguez of Abernathy, Texas - Sandrina Espaillat of Richmond, Va. - Marissa Hichman of Concord, N.C. - Sicily Ledford of Cumming, Ga. - Katherine Rhea of Joelton, Tenn. Another six students were awarded a $1000 scholarship. They include: -Zitalhy Avial of Humble, Texas - Coven Carrico of Fort Wayne, Ind. - Timothy McGinnis of Westminister, Colo. - Sherri Perez of Grand Prairie, Texas - Ella Podrez of Washougal, Wash. JeShaela Tunstall of Byhalia, Miss. "We are always happy to recognize students with these awards," said Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell. "Every year we receive many wonderful applications, which makes the task of selecting the recipients very difficult. We are pleased that we are able to offer this program as a benefit to our employees and their dependents." Applications to the program are reviewed by a selection committee who evaluate each student's academic achievement, essay quality, community service, leadership capabilities, communication skills and recommendation letters.
