Saia Selects 2013 Scholarship Recipients
Program has awarded $190,000 to 125 students since its inception in 2003 JOHNS CREEK, GA - Aug. 28, 2013 - Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) is pleased to announce the names of 12 students receiving scholarships totaling $18,000 as part of the company's 2013 scholarship program. Since its inception ten years ago, the program has awarded a total of $190,000 to 125 students, including this year's recipients. Saia's scholarship program is a benefit designed to support company personnel as they pursue a higher education. It is open to full-time employees attending college and/or their dependents who are full-time students. The following six students were awarded a $2000 scholarship: - Cory Coffey of Anderson, Ind. - Matthew Dominguez of Abernathy, Texas - Sandrina Espaillat of Richmond, Va. - Marissa Hichman of Concord, N.C. - Sicily Ledford of Cumming, Ga. - Katherine Rhea of Joelton, Tenn. Another six students were awarded a $1000 scholarship. They include: -Zitalhy Avial of Humble, Texas - Coven Carrico of Fort Wayne, Ind. - Timothy McGinnis of Westminister, Colo. - Sherri Perez of Grand Prairie, Texas - Ella Podrez of Washougal, Wash. "Every year we receive many wonderful applications, which makes the task of selecting the recipients very difficult. Applications to the program are reviewed by a selection committee who evaluate each student's academic achievement, essay quality, community service, leadership capabilities, communication skills and recommendation letters.
