Saia Announces General Rate Increase

Saia, Inc. has announced that effective Oct. 15, 2010 it will implement an average general rate increase (GRI) of 5.9 percent. Truckload rates will be increased by 5.9 percent as well. Minimum charges will also be increased by 5.9 percent (rounded up to the nearest 50 cents), subject to a $2 minimum increase. The Saia 5700R 10/15/10 rates will be available on our Website at www.saia.com. Oct. 15, 2010.

Saia will also implement an increase on selected accessorial charges. For more information, customers can review Saia's rules tariff at www.saia.com. for accessorial charges specifically affecting them.

For over 86 years, Saia has provided its customers with the best possible service - the type of service our shippers have come to know and expect. While we have always worked to manage our costs, expenses continue to go up. As such, we have found it necessary to institute a GRI. The increase is necessary because of rising health care costs and expenditures due to regulation impacting the labor pool. Equipment prices also keep climbing. For example, the past two emission standard changes have increased the cost of a tractor by $17,000 - and these newer tractors are less fuel efficient.

If customers have any questions regarding this increase, they should contact their Saia sales representative or call 1-800-765-7242.
