Saia Awards Twelve Student Scholarships
Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) is pleased to announce the names of 12 recipients receiving scholarships totaling $18,000 as part of the company's 2008 Scholarship Award Program. Since its inception in 2003, the program has awarded a total of $106,000 to 71 students. Saia's Scholarship Program was designed to reinforce the importance of higher education and as a benefit to company employees. The following six students were awarded a $2000 scholarship: Kristen Baker of Omaha, Neb. Jeremy Canning of Boise, Idaho Amanda Crisp of Elmore, Ala. Kiara May of Gainesville, Ga. Sarah North of San Diego, Calif. Shane Prejean of Houma, La. Another six students were awarded a $1000 scholarship. They are: Maria Aguilar of South Houston, Texas Russel Arnold of Dalton Gardens, Idaho Austen Cain of Ringgold, Ga. Ashleigh Newman of Chesapeake, Va. Kimberly Osesky of Gilberto, Ariz. Lauren Wilderson of Fishers, Ind. "We are delighted to present these very deserving students with educational assistance," said Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell. "The applications the committee reviewed were excellent and highlighted each student's achievements. All applicants are well respected in the communities where they live and each came highly recommended by their associates, teachers and community leaders." Saia's Scholarship Program is open to full-time employees attending college and/or their dependants who are designated full-time students. Applications to the program are reviewed by a selection committee who evaluate each student's academic achievement, essay quality, community service, leadership capabilities, communication skills and recommendation letters.
