Saia Donates Services to Support Deployed American Soldiers
Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) recently assisted Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America (JWV) in their efforts to bring donated goods to U.S. troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. JWV was contacted by a Starbucks Coffee store located in Denver, Colo. where employees and customers had collected nearly 2,000 pounds of coffee for U.S. troops. The Starbucks employees requested JWV's help in delivering the donated coffee and JWV readily agreed to work with them to get the shipment to troops serving overseas. Just as the JWV staff and volunteers were beginning to lose hope that they would be able to get the coffee to the troops, they received a call from personnel at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina who had learned of their situation. JWV was told if they could get the shipment to the base, it would be flown directly to Iraq. JWV then reached out to Saia for assistance. Saia worked quickly to arrange for the coffee to be picked up in Denver, Colo. and transported to North Carolina. "We were so glad that JWV reached out to us for assistance. We were happy to help them ensure the generous donations from the residents of Denver and the Starbucks employees made it to the men and woman serving our country," said Saia Vice President of Marketing and Customer Service Sally Buchholz.
