Saia Awards Ten Student Scholarships

DULUTH, GA – Saia has announced the recipients of ten higher education scholarships totaling $15,000 in the first annual Saia Scholarship Award program. Scholarships were awarded to children and dependents of Saia employees.

"This scholarship program is a Saia initiative that was designed to reinforce the importance of education, and to benefit our employees and their children," said Saia President and CEO Rick O’Dell. "The response we received in this program highlights the desire of today’s students to build a solid future based on a strong educational foundation," he said.

A total of ten scholarships were awarded.

Five $2,000 scholarships were awarded to:
  • Mandi Dillingham, daughter of Donald Dillingham, Saia line driver in Oklahoma City, OK. Mandi is a student at East Central University.
  • David T. Harrelson, son of Robert Harrelson, Saia city driver in Seattle, WA. David will be attending Lewis and Clark College this fall.
  • Leah Layman, daughter of Charles Layman, Saia line driver in Tampa, FL. Leah will be attending Florida State University this fall.
  • Amanda Richter, step daughter of David Morris, Saia line driver in Houston, TX. Amanda is a student at the University of North Texas.
  • Ryan Sousley, son of John Sousley, Saia line driver in Fontana, CA. Ryan is a student at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Five $1,000 scholarships were awarded to:
  • JoseLuis Calvillo, son of Luis Calvillo Jr., city driver, Lubbock, TX. JoseLuis will be attending Texas Tech University in the fall of this year.
  • Kara Gaskins, daughter of Kenneth Gaskins, line driver, Knoxville, TN. Kara is a student at Pellissippi State Technical Community College.
  • Kelli Haas, daughter of Michael Haas, city driver, Austin, TX. Kelli is a student at Southwest Texas State University.
  • Trey Love, son of Charles Love Jr., city driver, Atlanta, GA. Trey will be attending Morehouse College in Atlanta this fall.
  • Michael Prejean, son of Mona Prejean, collections specialist at the Houma, LA General Office. Michael is attending Nicholls State University.
"The applications the committee reviewed were excellent, showing that these very deserving students are high academic achievers, very well respected in their communities, and are highly recommended by their associates, teachers and community leaders," O’Dell said.
