ITEM 566 Inside Delivery or Handling Freight at Positions Not Immediately Adjacent to Vehicle

  1. When requested by consignor or consignee, and carriers' operating conditions permit, the carrier may move shipments or portions of shipments from or to positions beyond the immediately adjacent loading or unloading positions defined in Item 750 (Pick-Up or Delivery Service).


  2. Service under this item will be provided to floors above or below the level accessible to carrier's vehicle, only when elevator or escalator service is available and labor, when necessary to operate same, is provided without cost to the carrier. The charges for providing this service will be $7.20 per 100, subject to a minimum charge of $70.00 per shipment, and a maximum charge of $500.00 per shipment, or $500.00 per vehicle if more than one vehicle is used to transport the shipment.


  3. When shipments are accorded split pickup, split delivery or stopped in transit for partial loading or unloading, the minimum and maximum charges will apply to each stop separately, wherever the service is performed.


  4. The charges provided in this item will be in addition to all other lawful charges, and unless the bill of lading is specifically endorsed to show prepayment of these charges, they will be collected from the party requesting such service, except such charge for shipments moving on Government Bills of Lading will be collected from the United States government.
