Saia's Susan G. Komen for the Cure Campaign Concludes | ||
Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) on the Road with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a unique yearlong breast cancer awareness campaign, wrapped up in Nashville, Tenn. recently. Saia, a leading less-than-truckload carrier, dedicated a 53 foot working trailer in May 2008 to raise awareness about the disease. Over the last 12 months, the trailer traveled nearly 14,000 miles through 32 states and made stops at 41 of the company's 148 terminals. At each stop, the trailer operated as a working city trailer making deliveries and pick-ups. In addition to the trailer, a special Website was developed as part of the campaign. Every time a visitor to the site clicked the Saia/Komen logo, Saia donated money to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. The Website received nearly 60,000 clicks and Saia has donated $40,000 to the foundation. While remarkable advances have been made in the fight against breast cancer, the search for a cure continues. Susan G. Komen for the Cure estimates that this year alone, 192,370 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Early detection still plays a key role in lowering the risk of mortality. "Everyone at Saia is tremendously proud of the campaign and the impact it had in the communities where the trailer traveled," said Saia's Vice President of Marketing and Customer Service Sally Buchholz. "We are thankful to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation and we hope Saia has, even in some small way, increased people's awareness about this insidious disease." About Saia, Inc. Saia, Inc.
